Caldera Blossoms

for string quartet

Composer’s Note:

“I wrote Caldera Blossoms in 2009 for performance at the Deer Valley Music Festival in Park City, Utah.  The title is inspired by seeing flowers blooming in the wastes near Mount Saint Helens when I was a kid.  Stylistic influences include Turkish folk music – especially in terms of ornamentation and pitch content – and progressive Metal, particularly in the complex rhythms and the sustained levels of tension through the middle sections of the piece.” -Conor Abbott Brown
